What to Pack for Your Family Lake Trip
Family Afternoon on the Lake Shore
Posted on June 9, 2016 by

Taking the family out for a day on the lake can be a wonderful time to bond with one another. It’s an activity that kids and adults alike can enjoy, and allows you to bask in the great outdoors without electronic distractions. But, while the time at the lake is enjoyable, it does take quite a bit of planning a preparation beforehand to ensure that everything goes well.

So, if you’re planning a lake trip to one of the top family resorts in Minnesota, read this blog to help ensure you pack everything you need for the trip.

Clothing Items

For every person that is coming on the trip, ensure that they each have all of the following items:

  • Swimsuit
  • Dry change of clothing
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Towel
  • Flip-flops and/or water shoes

If you have babies or toddlers that are coming, make sure to add swim diapers to your packing list.

Toys and Fun Items

A day at the lake is not complete without the right toys! Make sure you bring along some or all of the following items:

  • Goggles
  • Mask and snorkel
  • Water floats or noodles
  • Sand toys for young children
  • Skis, inner tube, towing rope, etc. (if you’ll have a boat to use)
  • Fishing supplies (including your license)
  • Boating registration and license (if you’ll be using one)
  • Camera

The list of fun things you’ll want to bring will vary depending on the people in your family and the activities you have planned for the day. Make sure you create a written checklist for all of the fun items you plan to bring, and take it to the lake with you so you can ensure nothing is left behind.

Food Items

Your family will need to eat and stay hydrated during your time at the lake, so be sure to bring the following items:

  • Snacks
  • Food for meals
  • Bottled water and other drinks
  • Cooking utensils and supplies
  • Cooler and ice
  • Paper towels
  • Trash bag

Make sure you clean up all of your food items before you leave the lake.

Other Essentials

Here are some other essential items to bring:

  • Life jackets
  • Sunscreen
  • Wet wipes
  • First aid kit
  • Ziploc bags (to protect phones and other items from sand and water)
  • Swiss army knife
  • Bug spray
  • Flashlight and batteries (if you’re staying late)

If you plan well and ensure you pack all of the items on your checklist, your trip to any of the Minnesota family lake resorts should be a wonderful one for you and the whole family.
