There are more trails than could be seen in one visit, but below are some local favorites.
Arrowhead Trail
The 135-mile Arrowhead Trail runs from Tower, MN, all the way up to International Falls. The trail was developed primarily for winter use, so large sections are impassable in the summer months. However, 69 miles of the trail are suitable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding during the summer.

The Arrowhead Trail connects with the 165-mile Taconite Trail, which runs from Grand Rapids to Ely, MN. This paved trail is great for hiking, biking and in-line skating in the summer months and snowmobiling in the winter.
Located just 4 miles south of Orr on US Highway 53, the Gheen Hill Trails offer 4.5 miles of beautiful hiking trails. The area is known for its birding and wildlife opportunities, as well as outdoor activities like mountain biking, hunting, and skiing.
Located 18 miles northeast of Orr, the Echo Lake Trail stretches 13 miles and is part of an area managed for ruffed grouse habitat. The trailhead is located 4 miles north of Buyck, MN – turn right on County Road 116. You can access the trail from two locations, 1.7 miles and 2.2 miles down County Road 116.
Vermillion Falls is a waterfall that cascades through a 10-foot-wide chasm in the surrounding granite. Located only 40 minutes from Orr in the Superior National Forest, the Vermillion Falls Trail is a ¼-mile round-trip hike that leads to the falls and an observation deck. The trails feature three rest stops overlooking the river, ideal for picnicking.
